Someone lit their pants on fire...

Tue Apr 27, 2004, 5:03 AM
I enjoyed reading the arguements posted earlier. I think gay marriages will be a deciding factor in the election, though, sadly, the economy is always the number one decider, sadly because voters typically know jack shit about how the economy works and have been spoiled by the '90s.

This group is going to be an outlet for social/political critics. So, cheers.

Guys, you are never going to believe this....[link]
I could not believe it....I keep telling myself that this has to be hokey...just a big pile-o-poop because no on calling themselves decent and freedom loving would stoop to this. I want to wake up from this nightmare....I really do.

Hey there mi compadres! This is a straight up journal entry from a couple nights ago....Should have put it here first, but y'know I'm just a dumb ole girl.......(who's gonna help vote that mooron out of office)....

I am sick of these dogs of war

Mood: worked up

I am a citizen of a country that has collectively forgotten about decency. We as a country used to distinguish ourselves as people who would not treat POW's the way our service men were treated in other countries. I have written to my congressman, I have contributed to amnesty international. I have vocally kept the argument alive ( at the risk of many friendships) as to why Bush's America would refuse to be subject to the International Criminal Court. (Guantanomo Bay, and now this) I want my Government to wash its hands of its business interests in warfare. I want a president who has nothing to gain (and no friends or relatives with anything to gain) from the spilling of blood, the deterioration of foreign policy, or the rebuilding of countries devastated by our military operations. ---But perhaps I want too much. Decency. I brought a child into this world and fear he should have had the gift of Canadian Nativity.. pretty soon I'm gonna stop yakkin' and start packin!

I feel so ineffectual.....

I try to do a lot of reading and fact checking before I do any quoting or sharing of pertinent info, (there's alot out there that's not sourceworthy) so feel free to correct any of my entries today and tommorrow...I welcome the skinny, it keeps me straight. Here's my latest observation of the times in which we live.....

The issue of gay marriage carries with it the certainty of great and positive change on so many levels, It's hard to know where to begin. wherever you stand on the issue, the lots have been cast and there are people out there on both sides that stand to be affected for better or for worse. I am, if you haven't guessed yet, in favor of recognizing the rights of married individuals of the same sex. It is an institution that carries with it roughly a thousand or so government protected benefits. Benefits that are enjoyed by not only the persons who have dedicated there lives to each other, but also by the children of these couples. To deny their sons and daughters of the benefits of the tax breaks, insurance benefits, inheritance rights, etc, creates a socio-ecnomic chasm between the equals and opposites. ALSO, (and this is very interesting to me) when and if the rights of Gay married couples are recognized, a distinct difference between the yearly income of paired males and paired females will be embarrassingly evident- sparking once again the ERA debate of equal pay for equal work for Women. It should all prove very historical and ground breaking. The issues of the church are such that they are using there political clout to influence the politicians, however they stand to gain or lose nothing from the recognition of gay marriage....no fewer or greater amount of people will be in attendance as a result. Does anyone present know of any reason why the church should be adverse to these civil rights issues, aside from contradicting religious doctrine?

In my opinion, the Christians and other religious people opposed to Same-Sex coupling in this country are just pissed because they aren't the ones getting the preferencial(sp?) treatment anymore. The Christians are the ones credited with founding America and thus are held slightly higher than those of no or diverse religions. All this nonsense about Jesus saying that you shouldn't be gay is stupid ( may I point out that 90% of Americans still think that Jesus was a long haired European with an English accent.) Christ died to save everyone's sins big or small, so if being gay is a sin, why should anyone care?

Actually (and I just looked this up) the part of the old testament that derides homosexuality is in the books that coincided the the exodus and desert exile to the tune of forty years. It is a survival guide, homosexuality isn't exactly a good idea if the mortality rate is high and you want to keep your numbers up (no offspring result from those unions) and that's where you'll also find the campfire tail that if you masterbate--god will strike you dead., that's why those books were written........I am convinced that the religious right truly have something to lose from this, I just can't figure out what.....yet. Once gay marriages pass, everyone will be enjoying the priviledges of marriage (except for male vs. female salary) so why are these people scared? Guaranteeing the rights for one group of people doesnot negate those rights for another.....

Going on what you said about homosexuality and masturbation; geneticists have proven ( at least I think that was the field of research) that never in the history of everything has homosexuality threatened the population growth. Like I said before; all the religious stand to lose from gay marriage is their preferecial treatment. As soon as one of their big "pet peeves" is disregarded by mainstream society, they lose face if they still believe in such ridiculous notions. ( I, personally can't wait until that day) :)
